Milwaukee has an illustrious history when it comes to the Major League All-Star game for the Braves and Brewers.
The city hosted the 1955 game, which was the third season for the Braves at County Stadium after their move from Boston. The host National League won 6-5 in 12 innings on St. Louis slugger Stan Musial’s home run.
The Brewers then had the 1975 contest, which the N.L. won again, this time 6-3 with a three-run top of the ninth.
Miller Park then was the site of the city’s third Midsummer Classic in 2002, one of the more famous—or should we say, infamous—contests as the teams ran out of players and settled for a 7-all tie, only the second in history after the second of two games in 1961.
As far as players go, Beertown has been well-represented over the years. Hammerin' Hank Aaron was a member every year from 1955-65 as a Brave and then in 1975 upon his return to the Brewers. Eddie Mathews and Warren Spahn each garnered nine nods.
For the Brewers, Paul Molitor and Cecil Cooper led the way with five selections each, while current pitcher Ben Sheets grabbed his fourth honor this week to tie Don Money with four trips.
