Augusta pounded West Virginia starter R.J. Seidel, who didn't get out of the second inning in a 9-3 setback in the opening game of the South Atlantic League's championship series.

West Virginia couldn’t overcome another rocky outing by right-handed starter R.J. Seidel, who was rocked for a homer, seven hits, three walks and nine runs (seven earned) before registering an out in the second inning Monday night.

Augusta held on for a 9-3 victory over the Power in the first game of the South Atlantic League’s championship series. Game two is Tuesday in Augusta.

Jose Garcia allowed four hits in four scoreless innings and Reed Dickert, Curtis Pasma and Corey Frerichs each worked hitless frames.

West Virginia managed 10 hits but only scored twice in the fifth and once in the ninth.

Eric Fryer, Zelous Wheeler, Curt Rindal and Matt Cline each contributed two hits.
