West Virginia got better pitching, but its offense mustered only four hits during a 5-1 defeat in game two of the South Atlantic League's championship series, putting the Power in a 2-0 hole against Augusta.

West Virginia has no room for error now as the Power succumbed to a four-run sixth inning and lost game two of the South Atlantic League’s championship series, 5-1, against Augusta on Tuesday night.

The Power will attempt to get back into things as the rest of the series, beginning with game three on Thursday, moves to Appalachian Power Stadium.

West Virginia grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth as Logan Schafer singled, moved to third on Steffan Wilson’s double and scored on a passed ball.

However, the Power managed only two other hits, singles from Caleb Gindl and Curt Rindal.

As for pitching, it got better, but not good enough.

Daniel Merklinger started and allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three in 5.1 innings. However, Mike Ramlow was torched for three runs on three hits, including a homer, in just one-third of an inning.

Corey Frerichs got West Virginia out of the sixth, Roque Mercedes allowed a run in the seventh and Pedro Lambertus tossed a scoreless eighth.
