2008 Season
Mather finally got a chance to play in the major leagues, before hamate bone surgery ended his season in September. Mather hit .241 with eight home runs and 18 RBIs in 54 major league games, including 133 at-bats. He once again suffered back pain early in the season, something he has struggled with for a couple of season. He played better defense than expected. At Memphis, Joey Bombs hit .300 with 17 HRs and 41 RBIs in 59 games, 211 at-bats. His .411 on-base-percentage, was very impressive, due in large part to drawing 32 walks, while striking out only 36 times.
2007 Season
Mather split the season between Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis this year, hitting a combined .271/.357/.522 with 31 homers. Added to the Cardinals 40-man roster in November.
Career Notes
Mather hit .269 with 16 home runs and 74 RBI in 124 games in 2006 for high Class A Palm Beach. He was a perfect nine-for-nine in stolen base attempts.
