| Marshall was a 2003 sixth-round draft pick from Virginia Commonwealth ... He began 2004 at Class-A Lansing, where in seven starts he struck out 51 batters while walking only four for a 1.11 ERA in 48 2/3 innings ... He was promoted to Double-A West Tenn and made six starts before being shut down for the remainder of the season ... Spent 2005 between Class-A Daytona and West Tenn and was shut down mid-season due to bicep tendonitis ... Did not allow an earned run through Cactus League play in Spring Training 2006 ... Named the Cubs' fourth starter to open 2006 ... Made 24 starts for Chicago in 2006, going 6-9 with a 5.59 ERA in 125 2/3 innings, striking out 77 and walking 59 ... Spent time on the disabled list in the second half of the season with a strained left oblique muscle. ... Spent 2007 mostly at Chicago, making 21 appearances, including 19 starts, and logging 103.1 innings ... was 7-8 with 3.92 ERA. ... 2008: Recalled to Chicago on April 9. |
