| Selected in the 11th round of the 2001 draft, Soto spent 2005 and 2006 at Triple-A Iowa, batting .253 in 91 games in '05 and .272 in 108 games in '06. He earned late-season September call-ups both seasons ... In 2007, Soto put together the best year of his career to date, leading the Cubs' farm system in batting average (.353), home runs (26) and RBIs (109) in 110 games for Triple-A Iowa. He threw out 31 percent (19 CS/61 ATT) of opposing runners behind the plate. Soto earned Pacific Coast League MVP honors for his efforts as well as the Cubs' award for Minor League Player of the Year and the 2007 InsideTheIvy.com Player of the Year award. He was recalled from Iowa on Sept. 1, 2007. ... Begins 2008 as Cubs' starting catcher after batting .426 with 3 HR and 7 RBI in 16 games with the club last September. |
