| The San Diego Padres acquired right-handed pitcher Bryan Corey from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations on May 11, 2008.
Corey, who was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket on April 30, has posted a 10.50 ERA (7 ER/6.0 IP) in seven relief appearances over two stints with the Red Sox this season. The 34-year-old has also appeared in five games in relief over two stints with Triple-A Pawtucket recording one save and tossing 5.0 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 12th round of the 1993 First-Year Player Draft, Corey is 3-1 with a 4.40 ERA (29 ER/59.1 IP) in 52 career relief appearances over parts of five seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks (1998), Los Angeles Dodgers (2002), Texas Rangers (2006) and Red Sox (2006-08). He played one minor league season in the Padres organization, going 8-7 with a 4.67 ERA (55 ER/106.0 IP) in 47 games (12 starts) with Triple-A Portland in 2001. |
